A lot happened this week: Election Day and Veterans Day.

Election Day was Tuesday, Nov. 8

While nothing is finalized, we do have unofficial results in all local races. That includes mayor, city council, recreation center, psilocybin bans, state representatives and more. The mayoral race and the fate of the recreation center bond are the two closest races. Currently, Ed Fitch is leading Ben Schimmoller in the mayoral race by a couple hundred votes and currently the recreation center is ahead by roughly the same amount. With some mailed-in ballots still to be counted, both are too close to call.

Veterans Day was Friday, Nov. 11.

Reporter George Plaven visited the Central Oregon Veterans Ranch in Redmond and wrote a touching profile of folks who have found respite there. Reporter Nick Rosenberger spent Veterans Day taking photos and chatting with folks along the parade route. He also visited a resource fair for veterans at General Duffy’s. If you have a veteran in your life, pass that story on to them so they get the assistance they are entitled to.

Next week we’re preparing for Thanksgiving. We’ve got some features in the works, but if you have some ideas on people, places and things that we just HAVE to cover, send me an email at ttrainor@redmondspokesman.com.

One fun feature we’re trying out is a new monthly segment called “All Up in Your Business.” It’s written by Spokesman employee Harrison McKinney. For our first installment, he climbed into a giant egg, which beamed lights and sounds deep into his psyche. McKinney will venture to all different types of businesses around Redmond, trying out their wares and their services. If you’d like him to get all up in your business, send him an email at hmckinney@redmondspokesman.com or call him at 541-923-1370.

As always, news gathering is a community endeavor and we could not do this without you. If you are interested in subscribing, try us out at a special rate by clicking here. Or try a free month-long digital trial by clicking here. And feel free to send us tips or ideas anytime.

To reach our newsroom, stop by from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 361 SW Sixth. Or give us a call at 541-548-3203 or email news@redmondspokesman.com.
