Central Oregon is home to America’s best beer scene and Redmond definitely holds up its end of the bargain.
The city is home to plenty of breweries, brew pubs, tap houses, wine bars, cocktail bars and other places where you can sip on local and international beverages.
Cascade Lakes Brewing Company
In Redmond since 1994, Cascade Lakes has eight year-round beers including its best seller the light refreshing ale known as the Blonde Bombshell. It offers a number of always-changing seasonal brews and draft specialties. In addition to its 7th Street Brew Pub in Redmond and Cascade Lakes Lodge in Bend, you can find its beer nearly everywhere in Oregon in bottles, on tap, in growlers and at events. Cascade Lakes also distributes in Washington and Idaho, with plans to expand. www.cascadelakes.com
Wild Ride Brewing Company
Wild Ride Brewing Company was opened May 2014 by a group of friends raised in Redmond. It brews large quantities of 11 different beers available throughout Central Oregon, with year-round IPAs and ales dominating the tap list. Plenty of special, seasonal offerings as well. The staff at Wild Ride continue to work to expand where their beer is available, with goals to distribute throughout the Northwest. www.wildridebrew.com
Silver Moon Brewing
Central Oregon’s fourth-oldest brewery set up camp in Redmond at the end of 2015 with a large-scale production facility. The expansion of brewing capabilities came after Silver Moon opened up lanes of distribution in Washington earlier in 2015. The location is a retrofitted 15,000-square-foot building that quadruples the brewery’s annual production to nearly 6,000 barrels. Its location in Bend will continue to operate with a focus on specialty beers and maintaining a beer pub atmosphere. The two main beers produced in Redmond are IPA 97 and Chapter 2 Casual Ale. www.silvermoonbrewing.com
Kobold Brewing
Kobold Brewing opened a tasting room and tap house downtown Redmond in 2017. The nano-brewery crafts its beer in Bend, where it began in 2015, as well as Redmond. Its small batch recipes are on tap at their tap house, with ever-changing seasonal and experimental brews coming online all the time. koboldbrewing.com
General Duffy’s Waterhole
General Duffy’s brings beer from dozens of local breweries and offers food from a number of local, on-site food trucks. Customers on site often are serenaded by live music and events at their outdoor concert space. Big name bands occasionally stop by, and specialty nights are not uncommon. Not only are there 20 taps to choose from, it is also host to regular concerts, comedy shows, markets and private events. www.generalduffys.com
Initiative Brewing
While the east-side industrial areas are drawing small-scale producers with taprooms, midtown Redmond has a full brewpub with Initiative Brewing. The new brewery opened in a former bank building at 424 NW Fifth St and is known for its excellent cuisine along with beers that range from IPAS to lager and ales. The brewing is planning an expansion to nearby Madras in 2023. www.initiativebrew.com
Gompers Distillery
The industrial building at 611 NE Jackpine Court is also home to the Gompers Distillery, maker of Gompers Gin. Redmond’s business-friendly policies attracted Gompers Distillery owners Jessica and Michael Hart right off the bat. “I love the vibe and the feel of Redmond,” Jessica Hart said. The couple had been making their signature gin on another distiller’s equipment in Bend for five years. Since leasing space on Jackpine Court, they plan to import their own still from Holland and begin hand production of a variety of spirits. The Prohibition-era style tasting room even has a “hidden room.” www.gompersdistillery.com.
Rimrock Taphouse
Boasting a 50-brew range of options to choose from, including everything on the beer spectrum from ciders to porters. Rimrock taphouse is the perfect spot to sample brews from all across the pacific northwest. For those more into cocktails, they have a selection of wine and liquor as well. Along with a snack menu, food trucks can be found parked in their fire-lit patio. www.rimrocktaphouse.com
Over the Edge Taphouse
Aptly named for being on the outer edge of Redmond, Over the Edge is located in Crooked River Ranch. Its 1,500-square-foot space includes a number of food carts and fire pits and dozens of taps to choose from. They also book space for events and have a concert series each summer. www.theedgetaphouse.com
Otto’s Landing
This logging themed restaurant is inspired by a family logging company from Forest Grove and features the actual equipment used on the walls. You’ll also find over 20 television screens, viewable from both the main floor and loft area. Perhaps the best part is the kids playroom that keeps the children contained. www.ottosrdm.com
Blacksmith Public House
Blacksmith is the newest addition to the lineup, replete with a host of live music, food, coffee and drinks inside with the option of six food trucks outside on the patio. It opened in April 2022 and has served as a community space for art nights, concerts, karaoke and standup comedy from its inception. A neon sign pays homage to the fact that the location was originally the Bates-Ayres Blacksmith shop, only now all they’re crafting are cocktails and coffee. Blacksmith is located on the corner of SW Evergreen and 4th Streets. www.blacksmithpublichouse.com
Beer Stop
Nestled along Highway 97, the Beer Stop can be a one-stop-shop for a wide array of bottles, cans, and taps. Fill your growler or take some brews to go, featuring super-local, national and even international offerings. www.linktr.ee/beerstopredmond
Eqwine Wine Bar
For more refined tastes, Eqwine Wine Bar offers an ever-changing inventory of Pacific Northwest wines and craft beer. The perfect spot for casual tasting and small bites on their cozy outdoor patio. If the wine need is greater, they also offer a wine cart available to rent. www.eqwine-wine.com
