- Redmond will be divided by two senate districts (27 and 30) and two house districts (53 and 59) in 2023.
Another week in the books — and another week closer to the November election.
Forums continue throughout Redmond and Deschutes County as it seems like everything is up for grabs this election — from city council to the U.S. Senate. Be sure to keep an eye on the Redmond Spokesman opinion section, where letter writers have an opportunity to endorse their preferred candidates or measures that they support or oppose.
And you’re always welcome to write in. Use this form to send in your thoughts, email them to news@redmondspokesman.com or drop one off at our front desk. We want to make sure we get everyone’s thoughts in before ballots go out. We do empty all our letters the week before the election, so get them in now so we can be sure to have enough space.
Plenty of other stuff in the news. In this upcoming edition, we talk with local and state voices about what it means for Redmond to be split by two state house and senate districts starting next year. Partly, this is more proof of Redmond’s growth — we can no longer be represented by just one person in each legislative chamber. But also, there’s something more nefarious afoot. Dreaded gerrymandering — where politicians carve up districts in order to give them the best chance to stay in power. Oregon Democrats had control during the 2022 redistricting process and got to draw these strange new lines. At least we hope to give voters a heads up before they get their ballots and are shocked to find they’re in a completely new district than before.
We’ll have plenty more, including a new documentary making waves in Hollywood and Manhattan that deals centers a Redmond ranch and local characters. You won’t want to miss it, either in the paper or on the screen.
As always, we couldn’t do this without you. News gathering is a community endeavor.
