It seems like every week is a busy news week in Redmond.

But first, we must send our condolences to our neighbors in Bend. The fatal shooting last week has definitely shook that city to its core. We hope you read this story from our sister paper’s reporter Bryce Dole. It’s an affecting profile of a victim of that senseless tragedy.

A couple miles down the road in Redmond, the city of Redmond had its own close call with tragedy, as a fire just on the southwest edge of town was put out quickly and kept to 10 acres in size. Thankfully, no homes were lost and no one was injured. But as we see the shocking photos from Weed, Calif., it a reminder that our region is prone to wildfire and we should all do what we can to reduce our risks.

But it isn’t all hard news and danger in the Spokesman’s pages. Last week’s paper included photos from a high-flying motorcycle show in Redmond, a wild water polo tournament, and a weekend airshow in Madras.

This week’s Truck of the Week spotlighted a traditional Mexican foodstuff that many American eaters might not know about. Pays to listen to the cart owner when she recommends the quesabirria!

This week’s edition will have lots of fun stuff — including flying cars, a whole page of stories about local wine magnates, a review of local restaurant, sports scores and more.

We’re opening our doors (361 SW Sixth, next to the Odem Theater) for an open house in conjunction with the Redmond Chamber of Commerce from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Sept. 16. We hope you swing down for some baked goods, a cup of coffee and a chat about local journalism.
