From the editor’s desk

Last week we unveiled a totally new Redmond Spokesman.

The August 9 edition of the paper was 12 full-color pages, filled to the brim with lots of local news stories. Reporters filed dispatches from the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo, including loads of photos and features on everything from FFA/4-H stars to a Warm Springs artist.

We also wrote stories about a local centenarian celebrating her 100th birthday and construction hitting high gear at local schools and a dangerous local intersection.

We even included some fun digressions, both our summer favorite Chuck of the Week and a new feature, our first-ever Truck of the Week.

We hope you checked it out and appreciate all the good feedback we got from readers. Our expectation is to keep growing the paper in size and quality, but of course we need the support of subscribers and advertisers to make that possible. If you are interested in subscribing, you can try us out at a special rate by clicking here.

From our end, we know Redmond is a city that deserves a top-notch community paper and that’s what we’re committed to providing.

The finishing touches went up at our new location, located at 361 Sixth Street downtown. It’s at the intersection of Sixth and Deschutes, right next door to the Odem Theater. Our offices will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday, though if breaking news happens we may lock the doors and head straight to the scene. We will be giving away papers at that location, and at other spots around town, starting on Thursdays. So please stop by and introduce yourself and chew my ear for awhile. We will invite the public for an open house event very soon.

As always, I’m open to ideas about how our new staff should spend their time and what you want them to write about. Feel free to email me at ttrainor@redmondspokesman.com if you have story ideas or questions you want answered.

Thanks again for reading and a special thanks to all those who subscribe and keep us reporting on Redmond.
