- FILE - Fairgoers mingle in an aisle full of carnival games during the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo in Redmond in 2021.
Are you ready for the fair?
Because ready or not, here it comes. The Deschutes County Fair is blasting into the fairgrounds in Redmond this weekend with all of its traditional charms — food and games, rodeo and rides, 4-H auctions and lots of live music. It’s supposed to be a hot one, though gratefully not as hot as this past week has been.
Tuesday’s upcoming edition of the Spokesman will feature an insert that will serve as a guide to the fair. It will include info about all the things we love about the gathering each year, as well as a few new additions this time around. Keep an eye out for lumberjacks and high divers, wink wink.
The Spokesman will have a booth at the fair, so please stop by and chat with me, our reporters and our advertising team who will be manning it. We’d love to chat about the weekend, but also what you’d like to see in the paper going forward.
Hope you’ve caught some our recent stories. Habitat of Humanity built 19 homes in Redmond, a planned homeless shelter expects to be operational by late next year, a spotlight on a few downtown businesses as well as coverage of the Bacon, Brews and Balloons event.
And I hope you’re keeping up with all our “Chuck of the Weeks.” I’m still amazed by those little guys popping up in every corner and crevice around town — and it’s great to know that residents notice and appreciate them. Please submit your own photos, as you can win prizes and give us all the joy of seeing your back yard rodent.
We’re starting a “Truck of the Week” bit to partner with our summer Chuck series. We hope it will help residents become familiar with all the new eateries popping up around town.
