- Fourth of July parade
We’re still recovering from a fun Fourth of July holiday, which packed the streets of Redmond with red, white and blue.
Hope you had a chance to check out a few videos Richard Schuurman shot for us during the festivities. In addition to this new media, there’s also a gallery full of still photos our new reporter snapped at the parade.

That reminds me that we should introduce our new newsroom staff. Nick Rosenberger is a Bend resident and University of Oregon graduate, who has written for the East Oregonian as well as numerous outlets in the Bend area. We’re excited to bring him on staff full-time to add a big jolt of local bylines in the paper.
But that’s not all. We’re also bringing on Leo Baudhuin via the University of Oregon’s prestigious Snowden Intern program, which places UO journalism students in newspaper across this great state. This is the first time in quite awhile that the Redmond Spokesman has secured a Snowden intern — another good mark that the paper is back in high esteem.

Back to the Fourth of July fun. Here are the results of the parade winners, as chosen by the Chamber of Commerce. Also, some of the entrants (and some who were kept out) have generated some controversy. Read some letters on the matter here, here and here.
Hope you’re keeping up with all our “Chucks of the Week.” I’m still amazed by those little guys popping up in every corner and crevice around town — and it’s great to know that other residents notice and appreciate them.
We’re starting a “Truck of the Week” bit in next week’s paper to keep the party rolling, and to help residents become familiar with all the new eateries popping up around town.

As always, I’m open to ideas about how our new staff should spend their time and what you want them to write about. Feel free to email me at ttrainor@redmondspokesman.com if you have story ideas or questions you want answered.
