Column: 100 days of misery

It took me 150 days,

On my first day, in June, i trudged up Misery Ridge without a plan. But it turned out to be so fun, I thought it’d make for a good summer fitness goal.

On that first hike, I saw a few Bullock’s orioles, the males a shockingly bright yellow bouncing among the juniper branches. There were plenty of falcons, hawks and osprey — and a few molting eagles that were confusingly white breasted.

There was also a family of five otters pawing through tufts of river grass to get at the crayfish
