The USA BMX Great NW Nationals take place this weekend at the Deschutes County Expo Center.

This weekend, over 100 riders from around the Northwest and ranging from the age of 6 to over 50, will compete in the USA BMX Great NW Nationals race at the Deschutes County Expo Center in Redmond.

The Great NW Nationals race, which is free to spectators, has taken place at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds since 2008. Every year, it draws crowds from all over to witness the fast-paced excitement of riders racing down the dirt track, launching into the air and aiming to tighten turns and get the most speed.

“From the moment that the starting gate slams down, up to eight racers blast at a full sprint toward the first obstacle,” reads the USA BMX website. “Steep backsides, deep turns and downhill sections that can add up to massive speeds.”

On Friday, the races begin at 1 p.m., after the riders have all had a chance to practice on the track. Saturday races begin at 9 a.m. and Sunday races begin at 8 a.m. Though admission is free, there is a $10 parking fee.

“The arena is perfect, the dirt is ideal and the seating is plush and comfy,” reads the event description. “Not a bad seat in the house.”
