Local veterans who participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., will be returning to Redmond Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Redmond Airport and the community is invited to welcome them back with signs and American flags, either at the airport or at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds where a ceremony honoring the veterans will take place at 3:15 p.m. The veterans’ flight is scheduled to arrive at 3 p.m. and community members gathering to greet them are asked to arrive between 2:30-2:45. Parking at the airport will be charged at the usual rate. The Patriot Guard Riders and a Redmond police motorcade will escort the veterans to the fairgrounds, entering at Mt. Hood Drive. This year’s honor flight included veterans of World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Festival of Trees/Tour of Trees: Hospice of Redmond’s annual fundraising event, Festival of Trees, will be held as a tour of trees for the second year to support local businesses and community partners while allowing safe social distancing. The two-week event will culminate with a virtual auction Dec. 4 to support various hospice services for the uninsured. Hospice of Redmond is accepting applications to decorate or host a tree through Sept. 30. Tree decorators may be community groups, individuals or businesses and host locations should be local businesses or community partners can place a tree indoors by a large window so that people can safely view it from outside if a business is closed or the viewer does not wish to enter. Tree decorators will decorate the trees at the host location Nov. 17–20 and tree viewing will be from Nov. 21-Dec. 4. Tree descriptions and locations will be posted on social media and the Hospice of Redmond website. Jericho Road received grant from Pacific Power
Pacific Power awarded a STEAM grant to Jericho Road of Redmond for their weekend food program backpacks for students. The STEAM grants are intended to support education and STEAM learning programs and help community organizations continue to respond to COVID-related needs.

High Desert ESD appoints 2 new directors
High Desert Education Service District has appointed Jim Boen as regional director of mental and behavioral health. Boen, who previously served as executive director for secondary programs and counseling for Bend-La Pine Schools, will partner with Central Oregon school districts to build upon existing mental and behavioral health efforts and develop region-wide systems of support. Boen has more than 28 years of experience in education and has served as an educator, school counselor and administrator for schools and districts in Western, Central, and Eastern Oregon.
High Desert Education Service District has appointed Amy McCormack director of Early Intervention Early Childhood Special Education. McCormack has more than 29 years of education experience. She began her career as a teacher of students who are vision impaired and later worked as a teacher in special education. She most recently served as HDESD’s supervisor of EI/ECSE, a program which serves more than 600 students in Central Oregon with programs for children with disabilities, developmental delays and those at risk, from infants to 5 years old

Redmond students named to president’s list
Bradley Haller and Aeryn Wright, both of Redmond, were named to the summer 2021 president’s list at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H., an accomplishment that recognizes full time students earning a GPA of at least 3.7.
