Two file for county commission Commissioner Phil Henderson has announced that he will seek re-election as commissioner. Henderson, a Republican first elected in 2016, has lived in Deschutes County for 30 years and is completing his first term as a county commissioner. Previously he worked at as a private attorney and a homebuilder. For more information visit electphilhenderson.com. Democrat Greg Bryant has also announced his candidacy for the county commissioner seat. Bryant, who retired to Bend in 2013, is a current member of City Transportation Advisory Committee, Cascades East Transit Advisory Committee, as well as a coordinator for Wildfire U.S.A. and vice president of the Deschutes River Woods Neighborhood Association. City takes over park reservations The city of Redmond is taking over the reservation system for city-owned parks and ballfields, something previously done through an agreement with the Redmond Area Park and Recreation District. Reservations are taken for city baseball, softball and soccer fields, as well as pavilions at Baker, Quince and Sam Johnson parks and events at Stack Park. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance at redmondparkreservations.com.

Women’s March “Reclaiming Power” is the slogan of the Central Oregon Women’s March, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday Jan. 18 at Centennial Park. The event will “uphold the rights of vulnerable people who identify as women as well as LGBTQ people,” according to a press release, and will include musical performances and an interactive salon presenting “Oregon’s history of racism,” historical information about people of color in positions of power, as well as a voter registration opportunity sponsored by the League of Women Voters. The event is also sponsored by the Latino Community Association, Neighbors for Redmond, Embrace Bend, Indivisible Bend, Vocal Seniority, World Muse, Hola! and Democratic Socialists of America. State Hosting Community Conversations on Oregon’s Housing Initiatives Staff from the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development and local leaders will hold a community conversation 1-3 p.m. Feb. 11 at City of Redmond Public Works, 411 SW 9th St., to discuss new Oregon housing initiatives, including House Bills 2001 and 2003 passed by the 2019 Legislature. Windermere raises nearly $6,000 for Family Access Network — Windermere’s Redmond office raised $5,971 for Family Access Network at their annual Share the Warmth event held at Juniper Golf Course, which donated the use of the facility and appetizers for the fundraiser. The event included a raffle, auction and other fundraising activities to support Family Access Network, which offers assistance to children and parents in need in the Central Oregon school districts. “Thanks to the generosity of all involved, we are grateful to be able to assist families in need through the cold winter months and are very appreciative of the life-changing work the Family Access Network does to lend a helping hand,” said Traci Brown, Redmond Windermere Real Estate marketing director.

Maragras Winery wins awards Maragras Winery, based in Terrebonne, was awarded a gold, two silver, and two bronze medals by the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Redmond Senior Center receives $19,000 grant The Oregon Community Foundation awarded the Redmond Senior center received a $19,000 grant which will allow the group to hire a full time executive director. The grant was supplied by a combination of awards from the Robert W. Chandler II Fund, the F.J. Hodecker Family Fund,the Ward Family Fund and the John and Jane Youel Fund. COCC “Scholarship Day” COCC Redmond Campus will host “Scholarship Day” with workshops 1-3 p.m. Jan. 22, Building 1, 2030 SE College Loop, to help current and prospective students understand financial aid options for the 2020-21 academic year. Walden nominates Redmond student for West Point — Brooke Parker, a Redmond High student and daughter of Michael and Stephanie Parker, of Redmond, is one of 13 Oregon students nominated by Greg Walden’s Service Academy Nomination Board for acceptance to U.S. Service Academies.
