Both Redmond high school football teams had similar starts to their 2019 football season as they did in 2018 in their Sept. 6 openers.

Now, Redmond will try to keep the momentum going, while Ridgeview will look for a similar turnaround to the one the Ravens staged last season.

Redmond 44, St. Helens 7

The Panthers had over 200 yards each in rushing (206) and passing (202) in their 44-7 victory at St. Helens, outgaining the Lions 408-173 in total yards.

Quarterback Austin Carter completed 15-of-24 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the touchdown passes went to former Redmond quarterback Cooper Browning, who finished with four catches for 52 yards, while the other was a 28-yard pass to Henry Chambers, who caught three passes for a team-high 79 yards.

Kole Davis caught five passes for 36 yards and added a 23-yard third-quarter touchdown run. Jack McKenzie had two catches for 21 yards and Aden Smith caught one pass for 14 yards.

Brendan Powell led Redmond in rushing, gaining 98 yards on 14 carries, including a six-yard third-quarter touchdown run. Colt Folston scored Redmond’s first touchdown on a two-yard first quarter run, part of a 48-yard rushing night on eight carries.

Redmond opened the scoring with a first-quarter safety. Folston led the Panthers with seven solo tackles and also recovered two fumbles. Smith added an interception.

Redmond opened the 2018 season with a 44-21 home victory against St. Helens, one of two wins the Panthers had on the season.

Last season, Redmond followed the St. Helens loss with a 40-8 home loss against Eagle Point. The Panthers will have a rematch at Eagle Point at 7 p.m. Friday.

The key difference — former Eagle Point coach Seth Womack will be leading the Panthers this time.

Crook County 39, Ridgeview 15

The Ravens fell 39-15 in their opener at Crook County, despite 123 rushing yards and a touchdown from Josh Biever.

The Ravens amassed more than 400 total yards but were hurt by scoring no points in five trips to the red zone, according to The Bulletin.

Ridgeview quarterback Bryce DeMars completed 14-of-30 passes for 150 yards.

Ridgeview’s 47-25 home loss to Crook County in 2018 was part of an 0-3 start that the Ravens overcame to reach the state playoffs. They hope to avoid going 0-2 this season at 7 p.m. Friday at South Eugene, which defeated Ridgeview 34-20 in week 2 last season.
