Prineville man dies in crash near Redmond: A 43-year-old Prineville man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a Sept. 5 crash on Highway 370 just east of Redmond, according to an Oregon State Police news release. Matthew Herrera died after losing control of the Chevrolet Impala he was driving eastbound at a fast speed and sliding into the westbound lane at mile marker 2 of the highway, police said. Herrera then collided with a GMC pickup, driven by Aaron Ruhl, 37, of Prineville. Herrera was killed, while Ruhl and Jessica Heggie, 32, of Prineville, a passenger in Ruhl’s pickup, were taken to a hospital, police said.

Airport to hold autism event: Redmond Municipal Airport is partnering with the Autism Society of Oregon and Alaska Airlines to give families a chance to have a “trial run” for families with a member with autism or another developmental disability, according to a news release. Participants at the Oct. 19 “Sky’s the Limit!” event will check in at the ticket counter, go through TSA’s security process and board an Alaska plane, which will taxi on the airport’s runway. Transportation commission to meet: The Central Oregon Area Commission on Transportation will meet 3-5 p.m. Thursday in the City of Redmond Public Works Training Room, 243 E. Antler. Hospice to honor veterans: Hospice of Redmond will play host to a We Honor Veterans lunch on the third Wednesday of each month, starting Sept. 18 and continuing through June 2020. Veterans eat free and a suggested donation of $4 is in place for people 60 and older and $5 for those under 60. The event starts at noon at the Senior Center of Redmond, 325 NW Dogwood Ave.
