RDM expanding TSA PreCheck: Passengers at Redmond Municipal Airport can enroll in the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck expedited screening program through Aug. 9, according to a news release. The program allows travelers identified as low risk to move through security faster by allowing them to keep shoes, belts and other items on. It is available at more than 200 airports but has previously been at RDM on a limited basis. Enrollment will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays between the gift shop and west entrance. To pre-enroll, visit identogo.com/preCheck.

Stroke-awareness class planned: A free community class to help residents deal with stroke is planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Hospice of Redmond community room at 732 SW 23rd St. Dr. Dennis Schaberg, board chair for Stroke Awareness Oregon, will discuss what to look for in signs of a stroke, what to do quickly and what the medical community is doing to improve chances for better success and survival, according to a news release. Selco names new local manager: SELCO Community Credit Union recently promoted Tim Dizney to branch manager of its two Redmond locations at 825 SW 17th St. and 300 NW Oak Tree Lane, which is inside Walmart. Dizney joined SELCO in 2017, previously serving as assistant manager of its East Bend branch. He previously spent three years at Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Eugene. He is a Eugene native and University of Oregon graduate.

Education

Redmond students graduate from Western Governors: Several Redmond-area students were among 22,000 students to graduate from Western Governors University, an online nonprofit school that had ceremonies in Anaheim, Orlando and Cincinnati, according to a news release. From Redmond, Jenni Carver Ross and Athena Wallace earned bachelor’s degrees in nursing, Amber Peterson received a master’s in nursing, Jennifer Edmondson received a bachelor’s in business-healthcare management and Makaela Thompson received a master’s in teaching-mathematics. Kim Schmidt of Terrebonne received a bachelor’s in special education.

Redmond school gets Lowe’s grant: Elton Gregory Middle School was recently awarded a $4,995 Toolbox for Education grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation, according to a Redmond School District news release. The grant from the home improvement retailer is meant to create a school technology program markerspace, a collaborative workspace that will allow students to model, draft and build prototype designs for various projects within their technology classes, the school’s principal, Gena Bennett, said in the release.
