Two Madras-area residents face drug possession charges after being arrested March 13 following a foot chase in Redmond, according to a Redmond Police news release.

Redmond Police and Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team officers found Jose Rodriguez-Sanchez, 40, and Sadie Renee Johnson, 27, who both had arrest warrants, around 10:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Buggy Stop Market at 1340 NW 6th Street, police said.

Rodriguez-Sanchez drove off as officers approached the 2004 Volkswagen he was driving, going behind the market, where he and Johnson ran away, police said.

K-9 officer Mavrick bit Rodriguez-Sanchez as he tried to climb a fence, but Rodriguez-Sanchez escaped and got over the fence, police said. Mavrick and his handler, Officer Josh Powers, searched the area and found Rodriguez-Sanchez, who was not injured by the bite, nearby, police said. They took Rodriguez-Sanchez into custody without incident.

Johnson was arrested without incident before climbing the fence, police said.

Methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the Volkswagen and in possession of Rodriguez-Sanchez and Johnson, police said.

Rodriguez-Sanchez was taken into custody on four arrest warrants from Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties, as well as new unlawful meth and marijuana possession charges, police said. Johnson had two warrants, from Clackamas County and the U.S. Marshal’s Office, as well as an unlawful meth possession charge, police said.
