A Redmond woman died two days after a Feb. 7 crash on Highway 97 between Redmond and Bend, according to a Feb. 13 Oregon State Police news release.

While driving south Anita Johnson, 75, was slowing the Ford Edge sport utility vehicle she was driving because of another vehicle in her way, officials said.

A 1994 Kenworth semitruck, driven by Chelsea Rice, 28, of Aumsville, collided with the rear of Johnson’s car, causing the Ford to drive off the highway to the right and collide with a tree, officials said.

The semitrailer, which was loaded with gravel, came to rest partly blocking the right lane and shoulder, officials said.

Johnson was taken to St. Charles Bend, where she died Feb. 9 from her injuries, officials said. Rice had minor injuries.

Highway 97 was closed to a single lane in each direction for four hours after the crash, officials said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
