Latino Community Association hires development manager: Cynthia Steward Jurgensen, of Powell Butte, was recently hired as the first development manager at the Latino Community Association, according to a press release from the organization. The position was created to strengthen the financial foundation for the nonprofit, which received a grant from M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to cover three years of fund development. Jurgensen hopes to “help LCA reach new levels of financial security and expanding our donor base by way of advocacy and outreach,” she said in the press release.

Chamber Prepares for Downtown’s April Youth Art Walk: The Redmond Chamber of Commerce is inviting downtown businesses to participate in the annual Youth Art Walk, held 4-8 p.m. April 26. Participants will display artwork from Redmond students in their business from April 19-26, and may host other artistic displays during the art walk, including drama, music, poetry, face-painting or any other artistic mediums. Wild Ride hosts Zwickelmania craft beer celebration: Wild Ride Brewery, 332 SW 5th St., will participate in the free state-wide Zwickelmania tour of breweries 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23. 24th Annual Eagle Watch at Round Butte Overlook Park: A free event celebrating the natural and cultural significance of the eagles in the Lake Billy Chinook area will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at “Eagle Village” in the Round Butte Overlook Park’s visitor center, ten miles west of Madras on SW Riverview Rd. Activities Saturday include pictures with event sponsor mascots, building bluebird houses, meeting a live great horned owl and viewing wild eagles. On Sunday, activities include bird-feeder building, wild eagle watching and a special tribal drumming and dancing presentation at 2 p.m. by the Quartz Creek Drummers and Dancers. A free hot dog lunch will be served both days, with donations supporting the Madras Little League program. Attendees can participate in a daily silent auction and raffle, with proceeds benefiting the Oregon Eagle Foundation. Indian Fry bread will also be available for purchase (cash or checks only), with proceeds supporting local youth participation in the Simnasho rodeo. An estimated 11 pairs of Bald eagles and nine pairs of golden eagles live in the area surrounding Lake Billy Chinook and migratory eagles joining the resident population in late winter. The event is coordinated by the Oregon Park and Recreation Department, along with Portland General Electric, Crooked River Grassland and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Redmond student named to Iowa State dean’s list: Erin N. Cork, of Redmond, was named to the fall 2018 dean’s list at Iowa State University, in Ames. The dean’s list recognizes students with a 3.5 or better grade point average and at least 12 credits.
