Redmond and Ridgeview will be represented by 16 wrestlers between them at the Feb. 22-23 Class 5A State Championships in Portland.
With 257 points, the Panthers finished third at the Feb. 8 Intermountain Conference District Championships in Pendleton. Ridgeview was fourth in the six-team event with 124.5 points. Crook County won the district with 408 points to 306 for the host Buckaroos.
Kagen Lawrence, who lost in the state final in 2018, is one of three Panthers to win an individual district title and one of 11 going to Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Lawrence won the 113-pound title over Steven Ware of Crook County.
Also winning for Redmond was 160-pound Clayton Elrod, who defeated Pendleton’s Isaac Urbina. Redmond’s Austin Carter won at 170 pounds, pinning Crook County’s Garrett Bond.
Ridgeview picked up an individual title, with Joseph Martin pinning Redmond’s Dillon Young at 220 pounds. After not sending any boys wrestlers to state in 2018, the Ravens will send five this year.
