March 17, 1928 – August 27, 2018

June was born to Maude and Ray Luhrs in DeGrey, SD, on March 17, 1928, as the youngest of 5 children. The family moved from South Dakota to Kalama, WA, in 1936. In 1946, June moved to LaGrande where she attended Eastern Oregon College of Education, and met and married Larry Overberg in 1948. She began her 37-year banking career in LaGrande with the First National Bank of Oregon, then was transferred to the Portland main office in 1951, which later became the First Interstate Bank.

She retired from banking in 1985 and immediately got involved in the community. She served on several boards including the Emanuel Hospital Board of Trustees and Foundation board from 1982-1988, and was a charter member of the Professional Women’s Symphony Association. She was also active in the ELCA Lutheran church.

In 1998, June and Larry built their retirement home at Eagle Crest in Redmond, OR. She served Zion Lutheran Church as president from 2009-2013, and was an active fundraiser for St. Charles Health System. In 2008, her beloved husband, Larry, passed away, yet she continued with her active role in the community. She was a member of the Redmond hospital volunteers, P.E.O., and Eagle Crest Readers book club.  She loved bible studies, golf, was a life-long swimmer and a gifted artist. She traveled extensively and was an avid reader. Her dedication to service was only outdone by her love for God, her family and her friends.

June and Larry did not have any biological children but were blessed with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great greats, along with several God children. She loved each and every one of her family with an unconditional, full, graceful love and brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of life service will be held Sept. 29, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 113 S.W. Black Butte Rd., Redmond. Service also will be streamed live at HYPERLINK “http://www.zionrdm.com” www.zionrdm.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the June L.
