1925 – 2018

Deak passed away Friday, Sept. 7, at the age of 93. He was born in Hartford, CT. on Aug. 2, 1925. His family moved to Pittsfield, MA., where he attended school, graduating from Pittsfield High School. He volunteered for military service and served in the army in the European Theater during World War II. After the war he attended and graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. After graduating he started a career in the Y.M.C.A. He worked in the Y.M.C.A. for 22 years in Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and Los Angeles.

In 1950, he married Barbara Kinghorn and they had a happy, loving, eventful, and wonderful life for 68 years.

In 1973, Deak changed careers and began working for the Chamber of Commerce in Glendora, CA. and in 1979 he was hired by the Bend Chamber of Commerce as Executive Director until his retirement in 1991.

He was active in many community activities in every city where he worked. In Bend he was Chair of the Citizens Committee for the Bend Parkway, Chair of the Y2K committee, member of the High Desert Education Service District, Chairman of the Tillicum Village Homeowners Assoc., and a member of Bend Rotary.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his children: Kipp, Susan, and Laird and his three granddaughters: Chelsea, Mackenzie, and Kelsey.
