December 11, 1954 – August 25, 2018

Francine Hannon (born Francine Latasa) was the fourth born of nine children raised in La Canada, California. Francine was a supportive sister, devoted wife, and an exceptional mother. She also cultivated meaningful, lifelong friendships. She generously poured her heart and soul into everything she did and continuously dedicated her services to her community.

After 11 and a half years of Catholic School and much determination she graduated early from Cosmic High in Pasadena, California. Following high school, Francine balanced her passion for skiing, climbing and hiking while attending college. She graduated from Chico State with a BA in social work. She then worked in Yosemite National Park, as a Ski instructor in Mammoth, California, and New Zealand, and as a purchaser at upscale ski shops. She truly valued learning and dedicated herself to lifelong education.

Francine married her husband, Arthur in 1984. They were bound by their unique sense of humor and zest for life. They moved to Bend in 1991, with their two children, Michael and Sara.

Through trial, error, and endless hours of HGTV, Francine developed a tasteful skill for decorating. Together the Hannons created a welcoming home and favorite gathering place for celebrations. Shortly after they moved to Bend, Francine started balancing motherhood and career by working with at risk youth at Meadowlark. During this time, she was also a foster mother to teenage girls. She then spent years as a social worker for Child Welfare while also earning a Master of Social Work from Portland State University. Francine later became a psychiatric social worker for the Oregon Department of Corrections. Her innate graciousness and compassion benefited those she worked with throughout her career.

On the morning of August 25, Francine peacefully passed away, but her spirit and the impact of her life will live on in the hearts of so many. In her final months, Francine was lovingly cared for by Arthur, Michael, Sara, and son-in-law, Chris Delk.

The Hannons are grateful for the outpouring of support from family, friends, and community members.

Francine’s life will be celebrated at her family residence on September 15, from 11am-2pm.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Francine’s honor to Heifer International or Surfrider Foundation.
