The Redmond High wrestling team had another strong finish at the Feb. 16-17 Class 5A State Championships in Portland, while a Ridgeview girl took home another state title.
The Panthers, with 103.5 points, finished sixth of the 29 teams to collect points at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, following up a third-place finish in 2017 and another sixth place in 2016. Dallas won the 2018 title with 188 points.
Though the Panthers didn’t have any individual champions, after getting two first-place finishers in 2017, they had some close calls.
Kagen Lawrence reached the final of the 106-pound weight class, where he lost 14-10 to Chance Lamer of Crescent Valley. Only a freshman, Lawrence should have more shots at a title.
Other strong finishers for the Panthers included Clayton Elrod (160) and Wyatt Gross (170), who finished fourth, John Crivellone, who finished fifth, and Diego Suganuma (113) and Trae Bolken (138), who finished sixth
Ridgeview sophomore Bailey Dennis won her second title Feb. 17 at the Wrestling State Championships at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Dennis won the 160-pound girls championship with a 4-1 victory in the final against senior Kyla Keen of Sutherlin.
She got to the final with a semifinal fall in 2 minutes, 55 seconds against Willamette senior McKayla Webb.
