The Redmond High wrestling team wasn’t quite able to repeat its Class 5A Special District 4 title, but well still be well represented at Friday and Saturday’s state championships in Portland.

The Panthers finished second in the nine-team Feb. 9-10 meet with 279.5 points, behind 400 points for victorious Mountain View. Ridgeview, with 67 points, edged out Summit for seventh place.

Kagen Lawrence won the title at 106 pounds, as did Clayton Elrod at 160 pounds. Redmond Jacob Curry (132), Bailey Fisher (152), Wyatt Gross (170), John Crivellone (195) and John Lawrence (220) also fell in their finals. Swimming

After the Feb. 9-10 Intermountain Conference swim meet, Redmond High will send five swimmers to Friday and Saturday’s Class 5A state championships in Gresham, while two members of Ridgeview’s team will go.

Redmond finished fourth and Ridgeview fifth in both boys and girls competition, but Ridgeview had the only first-place finisher and automatic state qualifier from a Redmond school.

Ravens senior Ben Hucke won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.79 seconds. He was also first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.24 seconds, just ahead of senior Alex Smith, Redmond’s top finisher in the meet. Hucke is seated fourth in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 50 freestyle at state.

Hucke will be joined in Gresham by fellow Ridgeview senior Daniel Maggiora, who is seeded eighth in the 100 backstroke.

For Redmond, senior Loryn Trail will make her fourth appearance at state, qualifying as the fifth seed in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 50 freestyle.

Smith is seeded 10th in the 100 freestyle and is a member of the 12th seeded 200 freestyle relay team, along with juniors Augie Tobish and Garrett McMichael and sophomore Jacob Crumrine.
