Dr. Marika J. Stone (maiden name – Middag), an amazing mom/dentist/cyclist/identical twin, died tragically on December 30, 2017, at the age of 38, when she was struck by an intoxicated driver while cycling on a beautiful sunny day in Bend, Oregon.
Marika is survived by her identical twin sister, Tansy Brown; her husband of ten and a half years, Jerry Stone; her two children, Kiptyn (7) and Kinley (5); her father, Gregory Middag; and stepmother, Karen Middag; and her mother, Cindy Harvey.
Marika was born in Sand Point, Idaho, on May 28, 1979. She grew up in northwest Montana and then southeast Alaska, where she graduated as co-valedictorian with her twin sister from Ketchikan High School. She went onto Willamette University and graduated with honors. Marika then went to dental school at the University of Minnesota, completing an Advanced General Dentistry Residency in San Antonio, Texas, through the University Of Texas. She bought her own dental practice, Mill Point Dental, in Bend, Oregon, in 2007 and cultivated its success for the last ten years.
In March 2010 and June 2012, respectively, Marika welcomed into the world her two beautiful children, who were the most important part of her life. She was a devoted mother, excellent dentist, and avid cyclist/athlete. She enjoyed any and everything to do with her children, hiking, skiing, backpacking, and camping with her family.
Marika had an exceptionally kind heart shown by her daily regard and empathy toward those less fortunate. She never paused in consideration of others; instead, she just reached out to fill the need. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Our world was made a much gentler and compassionate place simply because she shared it with us.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on January 27, 2018 at Summit High School in Bend, Oregon. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers and in Marika’s memory, any honor donations may be made to Columbia Bank, 1133 NW Wall St., Ste. 102, Bend, Oregon 97701. All of the proceeds will go to continue funding the local charities and nonprofits that Marika loved and supported.
