Last Friday was supposed to be the night Redmond High and Ridgeview fans got to see their teams play a home game after opening on the other side of the Cascades.

But, not only did both games get moved, both the Panthers and Ravens fell to 0-2 on the season.

Redmond dropped a 45-6 game at Silverton, while Ridgeview lost 21-13 to Eagle Point at Klamath Union High. Both games were moved because of the threat from smoke from wildfires across the Northwest.

The Ravens’ game turned from a scheduled home game to a neutral site contest against the school near Medford. After falling 55-20 in its opener at Thurston, the Ravens kept this one close. Conner Benz scored two touchdowns — to go with the two he scored in the opener — including a 59-yard first-quarter run.

Redmond had looked forward to seeing Silverton at home after playing two close away games against the Foxes last season — a week 2 loss and a first-round playoff victory. But Silverton took advantage of the move, scoring the game’s first 45 points before Clayton Elrod scored on a three-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run for Redmond.

John Crivellone ran for 65 yards on just six carries for the Panthers, Elrod ran for 44 yards on five carries and Jack Taylor ran for 42 yards on 17 carries. Tyson Hester caught two passes for 48 yards.

The Panthers open Special District 1 play at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Bend. Ridgeview plays at Hood River Valley and isn’t scheduled to play at home until Sept. 29.
