Some Redmond and Ridgeview spring sports teams showed up near the top of the Oregon School Activities Association Academic All-State awards.

Though it had a freshman-heavy roster, Redmond’s baseball team finished second in Class 5A with a 3.46 team GPA. The Panthers were narrowly beaten out by La Salle Prep of Milwaukie, which had a 3.48 GPA. Ridgeview finished eighth of 33 5A teams with a 3.33 GPA.

The team did a tremendous job academically, Redmond baseball coach Doug Taylor said.

“Our kids seem to be really driven toward success, as they give 100 percent effort, 100 percent of the time,” he said. “They are solid character kids that you want in our baseball program and, even more so, in our community.”

The families of the student-athletes also deserve credit, Taylor said.

“The character that these kids display wasn’t just picked up; their families have done an outstanding job instilling positive character traits in these young men and always giving them positive support,” he said.

Ridgeview’s Isaac Buerger won a state boys golf title, and the Ravens excelled in the classroom, as well. The boys golf team had a 3.64 GPA, third in 5A.
