Panther wrestlers are heading to state

Redmond High’s wrestling team stunned host and defending Class 5A state champion Hermiston to win the Feb. 10-11 Special District 4 championships.

The Panthers had four champions and will send a total of 12 wrestlers to the Feb. 24-25 state meet in Portland. Their overall total of 333 points edged out Hermiston by one point. Ridgeview, with 51 points, finished eighth in the nine-team district.

Among Redmond’s champions was Mitchell Willett in the 152-pound weight class. He will look for his third consecutive state title and become only the third Redmond wrestler to win three championships.

Other Panther champions were 120-pound Jacob Curry, who defeated teammate Jack McEathron 13-1 in the championship match. 195-pound Bunker Parrish, who pinned teammate Stayton Howard for the championship, and 220-pound Mario Nonato.

Other Panther wrestlers to finish in the top four and earn a trip to state included 106-pound Landon Robinson, 113-pound Trae Bolken, 138-pound Caleb Proctor, 145-pound Bailey Fisher, 170-pound Clayton Elrod and 182-pound John Crivellone.

Ridgeview’s Julio Osorio finished third at 152 pounds, earning him a second consecutive trip to state.
