Redmond High picked up crucial boys and girls basketball victories against crosstown rival Ridgeview on Feb. 3.

The Panthers (1-5 Intermountain Conference, 3-14 overall) picked up their first boys league victory of the season, 58-42 at Ridgeview (0-7, 1-15), in a matchup of teams previously winless in IMC play.

The Redmond girls (3-3, 8-7), meanwhile, strengthened their hold on third place in IMC with a 42-37 home victory against Ridgeview (2-5, 4-11). Just weeks after picking up their first league victory since 2012, the Panthers have a three-game winning streak.

Though Redmond and Ridgeview had played some opponents twice, this was their first meetings of the season because their Jan. 17 games were pushed back because of snow that collected on school roofs.

In the girls game, Redmond held Ridgeview to one point in the second quarter, giving the Panthers a 19-9 halftime lead. The Ravens outscored Redmond 14-9 in the fourth quarter but came up short.

The girls game featured a double-double from Redmond’s Ava Kitchin, who had 16 points and 19 rebounds. McKaylie Capps had nine points, eight rebounds and two steals; Hailie Harkins had six points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists and Jordan Fox had five points, six assists and four steals for the Panthers.

For Ridgeview, Macy McFetridge had eight points and Brenna Pinkerton scored six.

The Redmond girls were scheduled to play Bend on Jan. 7 before facing Ridgeview again at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The game against Redmond at Ridgeview will be the Ravens’ first since the loss against the Panthers.

In the boys game, Redmond never led by fewer than nine points after hitting eight of its first 13 shots. Josh Hair led the Panthers with 20 points and Ethan Soto had 17. For Ridgeview, Alex Nadermann scored 11 and Holden Penhollow scored eight.
