River passes available online: Boater passes for the Lower Deschutes will be available on the recreation.gov website starting in early January from the Prineville District Bureau of Land Management, according to a news release. Fees of $2 per person each day, or $6 on peak summer weekend days, will remain the same, but a $6 transaction fee will be added to online orders for the entire transaction. The transaction fee allows the government to recoup the cost of building the boater pass program from river users, rather than the general public. Around 3,000 facilities, with more than 90,000 individual campsites, are available on recreation.gov.
