The 33rd annual Festival of Trees brought Hospice of Redmond nearly double the amount raised at the 2015 event.
This year’s event Dec. 3 featured a gala and silent auction, and raised more than $170,000, compared to $90,000 last year, said Jane McGuire, Hospice of Redmond transitions coordinator. More than 2,000 people attended a free daytime event showcasing decorated trees and children’s activities, with 402 at the evening ticketed gala with the silent auction and a live auction of the decorated trees.
The nonprofit Redmond hospice, which has been open since 1981, provides end of life services including direct hospice service, a transitions program and bereavement counseling. The Festival of Trees is one of three Christmas time events the hospice holds. The others are Teddy Bear Tea, a ticketing event that sold out this year and features appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Cinnamon Bear, and Light Up a Life, a ceremonial lighting of candles to remember participants’ loved ones.
Money raised at the Festival of Trees helps Central Oregon families who do not have insurance to cover hospice care.
“We are honored to serve Central Oregon and have them respond with such generosity,” hospice executive director Karla Stead said in a statement.
“We are grateful to our community, its businesses and our volunteers for the generous support they show to us, this year was incredible.”
