Specialized firearm accessories are available downtown, through Springer Precision’s small retail shop attached to the company’s shipping hub at 356 SW Sixth St.

“We take a basic pistol and make it into a platform for self defense and competition shooting,” said owner Scott Springer.

Springer Precision opened in Redmond in June, after focusing on a need of increased space for processing orders. The company started in Bend, where its production facility remains, about 10 years ago by Springer. He is an avid competition pistol shooting participant and has designed more than 200 products that are available at the company’s website. One of the most popular Springer Precision products is a customized trigger mechanism that reduces the stock trigger draw weight. This is beneficial to competitive shooters who are timed on how fast they can navigate through a shooting course while firing on targets.

The Redmond location is the order fulfillment and shipping hub of the company. Springer said that all incoming and outgoing shipments will first go through the Redmond location. He also said it made sense to base shipping operations out of “The Hub of Central Oregon.”

“Redmond is the hub of Central Oregon, and we wanted to make this the hub of our company,” Springer said.

The store has a small supply of pistols, ammo and non-Springer Precision firearm accessories, which accompany a variety of Springer Precision items ranging from pistol to rifle accessories.

“We make products that are designed for its intended purpose, by people who know what they are doing,” Springer said.

Springer said his relationships in the competitive shooting industry give him an avenue of direct and nearly immediate feedback on new designs he works on. This allows him to provide a thoroughly vetted product, reviewed by the top competitors in each area of shooting. He said he had just shipped a prototype of a new product and within a half day of its arrival, a review was sent back to him.

“When people pull the trigger, they smile because of the difference in our products and that’s what we’ve built our business on,” Springer said

The company also partners directly with firearm manufacturers and makes specialized parts based off customer company needs. Springer said he is able to do this after he brought production in-house. This also makes Springer Precision available for other production needs of companies who don’t have the necessary equipment.

Springer also plans to hold firearm classes bimonthly, with hopes of the first class to be held before the end of the year. He wants to facilitate local instructors through his location, to help maintain their class size both in the classroom and at the range. Providing facilitation of classes will help stabilize the availability of safety and specialized firearms classes, according to Springer.

“We want to share our experience with the public so they can make decisions that will most positively impact them,” Springer said. “We wanted to do something to help the locals out and share what we do with the community.”

Springer Precision has a wide customer base, from around the country. Springer said they started off with a nationwide customer base, and that opening the retail store in Redmond was his way of giving back to the local community.

“We’ve always kind of been tucked away in Bend, and we just wanted to give something back,” Springer said.

After Springer got hooked on competition shooting in high school, he said he wanted to make his firearm fit him individually. He began gunsmithing and ended up making a career out of designing parts. He said he has always had a passion to create, and being able to mix that with competition shooting makes it worth it for Springer.

“It’s my passion, I love creating,” Springer said. “I’ve always loved creating and I feel fortunate that people are able to receive my product and at the same time I’m able to support my family and my employees,” Springer said.

Springer Precision has eight employees, two operating the Redmond location. Springer said that the experience of opening in Redmond was easy and working with the city made that possible.

“It’s been amazing, the guys in Redmond have been great, it’s night and day coming from Bend,” Springer said. “They have been extremely helpful. And I think it’s a huge asset to the city to have that. And from what has happened in Redmond in the past three to four years, there is a reason.”

As the company gets settled into its new digs, Springer hopes to continue the Redmond location.
