The third meeting in Redmond High and Ridgeview’s football rivalry is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Ridgeview.

While Ridgeview is in its fifth school year, the Ravens and Panthers did not meet in football until 2014. That was when Ridgeview moved up from Class 4A, where it won the state championship a year earlier.

So far, the rivalry has been in the Panthers’ favor.

In the schools’ first meeting in 2014, Redmond won 39-16, breaking open a 20-14 halftime lead. Then-sophomore Redmond quarterback Bunker Parrish threw for 193 yards, while running for 84. Hunter Smith, filling in for benched running back Derek Brown, ran for 144 yards and four touchdowns.

Redmond won even more decisively on its way to the state quarterfinals in 2015, defeating Ridgeview 48-0. Brown was back this time, scoring three touchdowns and running for 286 yards, finishing the regular season with 2,166 rushing yards.

No. 14 Redmond is once again favored over No. 27 Ridgeview, but anything can happen when rivals meet.

Redmond 26, Hermiston 14

The Panthers (4-2 in Class 5A Special District 1, 4-4 overall) are rolling into the rivalry game after knocking off No. 6 Hermiston 26-14 on Oct. 21, a week after Redmond nearly upset No. 1 Summit.

Parrish’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Hester gave Redmond the lead midway through the fourth quarter, and the Panthers cemented the victory with Jack Taylor’s 30-yard touchdown run. The Panthers and Bulldogs now sit in a three-way tie with Bend for second place in the league, with Mountain View a game out of the conference’s fourth and final postseason spot.

Parrish finished the game with 117 passing yards and 52 rushing yards, also throwing a 67-yard touchdown pass to Colton Mortenson in the first quarter and running for a 1-yard touchdown in the second. Taylor had 101 rushing yards.

Summit 70, Ridgeview 0

Defending Class 5A champion Summit clinched the league title, while Ridgeview lost its fifth consecutive game.
