Summit 41, Redmond 35

Redmond came oh-so-close to upsetting the top-ranked Class 5A team and defending state champions Oct. 14.

Summit came away with a 41-35 double overtime victory against the Panthers on a 26-yard touchdown pass in double overtime. But not before Redmond junior Jack Taylor gained 227 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns.

Redmond (3-2 in Class 5A Special District 1, 3-4 overall) took an early lead on Taylor’s 36-yard first quarter touchdown run, but the Storm rallied to take a 21-7 halftime lead.

But the third quarter belonged to Taylor, who scored a 20-yard run and had 165 rushing yard in the third quarter alone.

Taylor had two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter — a 71-yard pass from Bunker Parrish and a 29-yard run that put the Panthers on top 28-21. But Summit tied the game on John Bledsoe’s 16-yard fourth-and-goal pass to Ben Graziani with less than two minutes to play.

After the Storm took a 35-28 overtime lead, Cooger Smith scored on a 26-yard run to send the game to double overtime. Redmond failed to score on its first possession of the second extra period, and the Storm capitalized.

Parrish passed for 103 yards in the game and ran for 46 more.

The schedule doesn’t get much easier because the Panthers will play host to No. 6 Hermiston at 7 p.m. Friday. The Bulldogs routed Bend 28-7 last week. Hermiston’s only league loss was a 27-14 Sept. 23 defeat against Summit.

Mountain View 41, Ridgeview 12

The Ravens (1-4, 1-6) were outgained 374 yards to 186 by the Cougars in a 41-12 Mountain View victory.

Remy Barber cut the Mountain View lead to 7-6 with a first quarter touchdown run, but the Cougars then scored 20 consecutive points.

Greg Greiner’s one-yard third quarter run gave the Ravens their other touchdown.

The Ravens play at Summit at 7 p.m. Friday.
