Redmond football continues hot streak

Redmond football continued to improve its playoff position Oct. 7 with a 48-20 victory at Hood River Valley, while Ridgeview fell 54-0 at Hermiston.

The Panthers (3-1 in Class 5A Special District 1, 3-3 overall) got 128 yards on 17 carries from quarterback Bunker Parrish. Parrish also completed 3 of 3 passes for 84 yards, including a 29-yard first-quarter touchdown pass to Brady Daniels and a 34-yard second-quarter touchdown pass to Tyson Hester. Parrish also had a 43-yard first-quarter touchdown run and a 1-yard scoring run in the third quarter.
Cooger Smith added 77 rushing yards for Redmond, including a 49-yard third-quarter touchdown run. Colton Mortenson ran for 75 yards, including a 9-yard third-quarter touchdown.
Dillon Taylor also scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.
The Panthers are on a three-game winning streak and sit in a three-way tie for second place in the league with Bend and Hermiston.
The teams are one game behind 4-0 Summit, which the Panthers play host to at 7 p.m. Friday. The defending 5A state champion returned to No. 1 in the state after routing Bend 26-0 on Oct. 8. Summit gave Redmond two of its three losses in 2015, including a 42-14 defeat in the state quarterfinals.
The Panthers remain in good position for one of the league’s four playoff spots, sitting two games ahead of Ridgeview, Mountain View and Pendleton, who are tied for fifth place.
Ridgeview
Ridgeview (1-3, 1-5) allowed three first-quarter touchdowns and trailed 41-0 in the loss against the Bulldogs. Three turnovers were costly for the Ravens. Logan Green ran for 90 yards on 20 carries for Ridgeview.
The Ravens are scheduled to play host to Mountain View at 7 p.m. Friday.
