Green run: The Color Me Green 5K Run/Walk, which supports the Deschutes County 4-H program, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 8 at Deschutes County fairgrounds. The event welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels, who will be splashed with safe, green powder along the route to add to the fun. It is designed to provide a learning opportunity and to improve health in a fun, exciting way. The entry fee is $25 per adult, $15 for youth 16 and under and $50 for a family of up to four. Smith Rock lectures: The Oregon Archaeology Celebration lecture series takes place in October at Smith Rock State Park. The program was established in 1993, when Gov. Barbara Roberts made a proclamation that set aside one month each year to celebrate and promote Oregon’s archaeology, cultural heritage and history. Speakers include Patrick O’Grady, staff archaeologist for the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History, on Oct. 1; Rory Becker, Eastern Oregon University associate professor of anthropology, on Oct. 7; Jenny Huang, Bureau of Reclamation archaeologist, on Oct. 14; state park ranger and researcher Eric Iseman on Oct. 21 and state parks and recreation resource specialist Paul M. Patton on Oct. 28. The lectures are free, though attendees are required to pay the $5 daily parking fee or obtain a yearly pass.
