The memorial torch of Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Northwest visited American Legion Post 44 on July 23.

Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Northwest is a nonprofit out of Eugene that is transporting the memorial flame to Arlington National Cemetery, while stopping at 50 homes of families who have lost their own soldier. The trek will take the group 15 days. This is the nonprofit’s eighth year of traveling with the torch but its first year to end at Arlington.

The core group of eight riders meets up with other riders along the way, sometimes being escorted by hundreds of motorcycles depending on the area. The flame will travel about 4,000 miles total, in a custom-made torch carrier that is pulled behind the group’s motorhome. Its design prevents it from going out during its travels.
