City Council update

An update from previous Redmond City Council meetings and decisions:

• Ordinance Adopting Code Language Amendments regarding the Social Gaming Regulations in Redmond (Redmond City Code 7.280-7.333): A change in Redmond City Code regarding social gaming was passed June 28. Clarification of admittance of minors to businesses with social gaming was addressed. Social gaming is legal for persons 21 and older, but some of the business in Redmond with social gaming licenses are open to minors. The ordinance addresses this by changing the code to specify barring the admittance of minors to the gaming area on the premise of a business, which is to be separated by a physical barrier such as a drape or wall.

From the city report: “This ordinance proposed code amendments regarding City of Redmond’s Social Gaming Regulations, sections 7.294(7) and 7.296. The amendments to the regulations modify the restrictions to allow minors under 21 into establishments with Social Gaming licenses, provided the gaming is obscured from view of minors, and allows for licensee’s to advertise within their establishments in addition to the external advertising using printed media.”

• Proposed Police Radio Replacement: The Redmond Police Department is set to purchase more than $100,000 worth of radio equipment after July 1, which is needed for the department to stay compatible with the county radio system, dependent on approval by the City Council. The equipment is intended to help the department stay up to date with state and county radio systems. The purchase is in correlation of planning completed several years ago, including signing the ownership of the city’s police radio system components to the Deschutes County 911 service district. Many of the area’s public safety agencies are upgrading radio systems to maintain compatibility across departments.
