May 25, 1916 — Almost silently and working without much apparent effort, the pump at Opal springs is lifting water a distance of 750 feet to the rim of the crooked river canyon. This pump is one of the wonderful inventions of recent years on account if the direct application of power and using a portion of the element which it pumps as power. May 22, 1991 — The Redmond School District Budget Committee is expected to complete its work Thursday night by approving the district’s 1991-92 annual budget. The only change the 10-person budget committee made in two session last week was to maintain funding for a second school nurse position. “The committee felt it was too important a position in preventive health education, and wanted the position funded,” said Elton Gregory, district superintendent. Budget Committee member Neil Thompson said the second nurse is “important for the preventive education services in that this person teaches part of the aids and HIV curriculum.” Thompson is also a school board member. Faced with rising enrollment and full classrooms, the budget committee and the community have to decide how to handle growth.
