Male athlete of the week
Isaac Buerger, Ridgeview golf — Freshman Buerger shot a 2-over-par 74 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament in Corvallis. He was tied for sixth place, three shots off the lead, going into the May 17 second round, which was after the Spokesman’s print deadline.
Female athlete of the week
Maddie Edwards, Redmond softball — Edwards was among four players to hit third-inning home runs in a 13-0 rout of Bend on May 13.
Game of the week
Ridgeview, Redmond at Oregon High School Equestrian Teams State Championship Meet — Ridgeview finished first in medium-team competition, while Redmond was 18th among small teams at the statewide event. In individual timed events, Ridgeview’s Christian Fournier was reserve champion and Ridgeview’s Emily Geist was third.
What to watch for
State track and tennis — Redmond schools will be represented in both the Class 5A tennis and track meets this weekend.

Ridgeview finished second in the seven-team Midwestern League meet with 27 points, behind only Marist, which had 54 points. Redmond was fourth with 12 points.
Boys track

Redmond finished third with 108 points, while Ridgeview was fourth with 76 points in the five-team Intermountain Conference meet. Summit won with 175 points.
Girls track
May 11-12
Ridgeview was fourth with 48 points, while Redmond was fifth with seven points in the five-team Intermountain Conference meet. Summit won the meet with 258 points.
Girls golf
May 10
Ridgeview’s Tianna Brown shot 83-81— 164 over two days to finish eighth at the Special District 2 championships at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. That made her the only Redmond girl to qualify for the state tournament. In team competition, Redmond shot 846 over two days to finish seventh in the 11-team event, while Ridgeview shot 920 to finish 11th. Summit won the championship by shooting 645. Emalee Kandle was Redmond’s top finisher, shooting 101-94—195.
