Feb. 17, 1916 — There is a great deal of interest now centered upon the question of mining upon the Deschutes and Crooked rivers among eastern mining men and mining engineers, and this paper has been reliably informed that there will be at least three large eastern mining concerns that will have their expert mining engineers on the ground early this spring, preparatory to the starting to build their plants for the operation of mining. It has been known for some time that the opinions have been taken upon certain mill sites for which to build plants, which expire on or before May 1, so that it is an affirmed fact that there will be something doing in the way of mining here very soon.

Feb. 13, 1941 — J.R. Roberts, Chairman of Airport Committee, Work Projects Administration, informs me that the president has designated as acceptable for inclusion as a Federal Works project the reconstruction of the Redmond Airport with an allotment of $717,000. Kindest regards, Chas. L. McNary, U.S.S. — J.R. Roberts, his hat jammed down over his ears, emerged from his store shortly after 2 p.m. today waving the telegram from senator McNary. “This,” he said, “looks very much like it.” He doesn’t know what just to expect from now on, or how or when the Work Projects Administration intends to go about building the field.

Feb. 24, 1966 — Demonstrations on many sewing techniques will be shown to those interested Friday, Feb. 25, from 1-3 p.m. or from 7-9 p.m. at the M.A. Lynch School in Redmond. This is a repeat of the day held in Bend recently and is sponsored by Deschutes County Extension Services. Many requests have come for an evening demonstration, so the 7-9 p.m. demonstration time has been added for the convenience of those women who work or cannot leave their children during the day. Twelve homemakers who enjoy sewing will be showing their favorite skills to any person interested in watching. They each will have a separate work area and the public can watch any or all demonstrations as they desire.

Feb. 20, 1991 — Redmond’s efforts to gain approval of a radar-approach control facility at the airport is moving through FAA channels, and so is an effort to establish auxiliary flight service stations at four Oregon airports, including Redmond. Airport manager Carrie Novick hopes the program to create the auxiliary flight stations will not interfere with the city’s efforts to win funding for the TRA-CAB, or radar-control approach facility. The city and the Oregon Aeronautics Division are behind both efforts, according to Novick and Aeronautics Division Administrator Paul Meyerhoff II.
