In brief

Spring semi-competitive soccer: For fifth- and sixth-graders, the program is designed to occupy the “middle ground” between recreational and premier competitive soccer. Players have a minimum of two practices a week, depending on the volunteer coaches’ schedules. The league varies in play time based upon practice attendance and skill level. Redmond Area Park and Recreation District provides player shirts, but parents have to provide shin guards and socks. Cleats are highly recommended. Fourth-graders can play depending on an approved and attended skills assessment.

Coaches are also being sought. Registration deadline is Feb. 19. Sign up by calling 541-548-7275 or visiting raprd.org.

Benefit poker tournament: A benefit poker tournament is planned for 6 to 11 p.m. Feb. 27 at Juniper Golf Course. The event will benefit Ridgeview High School’s Class of 2016 Safe & Sober Graduation Party. It has a $50 buy-in, with a top payout of $1,000. A 100-player limit will be in place. Snacks will be provided and drinks will be available to buy. Contact Angel Spinelli to buy tickets or for more information at 541-771-0386 or RR2016seniorparty@yahoo.com.
